Villa Ulivello (465 sq meters) was built in 1860, the year Italy was unified, by a gentleman who came from Florence in a carriage drawn by four white horses. There are 18 well proportioned rooms. The large windows allow light to flood each room; an unusual feature for a Tuscan home. On the ground level the windows become doors, inviting a stroll in the garden. Several rooms have their original fresco ceilings and fireplaces with marble or terra cotta mantels. The wooden doors, windows and brass hardware are original, as well as is the graceful wrought iron railing on the grand staircase. The ground level has a library with doors that open onto a terrace (84 sq meters). There is also a formal dining room, sitting room, maid's room and store room. The kitchen has some of its original features a marble sink and the brick hood, essential for the cooking fireplace. On the first floor there are five bedrooms, a storeroom and an upstairs living room. |
