Chianti is famous for its vineyards and olive groves, as well as its many small towns that are beautiful and historically interesting. Among the closest are Greve in Chianti and Impruneta.

Greve in Chianti (10 kilometers south) is the center of the production of Chianti Classico, DOCG Gallo Nero (Black Rooster). Its triangular square is delightful, and hosts outdoor markets and wine tasting festivals. Greve was the home of two 15th century explorers, Giovanni da Verrazzano, who discovered Hudson Bay. Amerigo Vespucci was born in the nearby village of Castello di Montefioralle.

Impruneta (four kilometers north) has been famous since Medieval times for the production of terracotta vessels. The workshops are still flourishing and are open to visitors.

The historic Ugolino Golf Club, established by Florence's British colony in 1889, is only two kilometers away.

In twenty minutes you can drive to downtown Florence or take a bus that stops just outside the garden gate.
